Hi,

I recently I bought a Schecter 24 fret 24.75" PT Blackjack ( pawnshop prize for $175). I have been playing it against my PRS McCarty models all weekend. I have noticed that I really like the neck on the Schecter. I play with ease.

Not to sound dumb but I haven't played a PRS 24. Does a PRS 24 fret have the same spacing as a 22 fret but with an extra 2 frets? So is the fretboard longer? Or is the frets adjusted for the extra 2 on the standard PRS fretboard? Am I making any sense? I hope. LOL!

Thanks.

It was a dumb question.... I was not thinking. The fretboard is longer. Disregard. I found my aswer just by common sense. Which I was lacking earlier... Still, how does everyone like the 24 frets? I am going to try and find a 24 fret 25" guitar to try. Hopefully I can find a PRS in my area.

Hey Will,
Not dumb at all. People get thrown on that one all the time! I prefer the 22 myself but find that soling high up the neck is much more comfprtable with the 24s. The neck pickup placement is different and has a slightly different tone (all else equal) as a result. Definitely play a few. If you can play similar guitars with 22 and 24 frets to get an idea of the differences.

I like a versitle guitar and the 24 frets gives you that but I love love love soloing on a 22 fret guitar with the neck PUP because of the placement of the PUP...it has such a warmer sound *cough* Tour Guitar *cough* BTW can I put a Wagner neck PUP and match it with like a PRS HFS or Dragon in the bridge or is that just nonsense and silly talk ?

Absolutely. This is a really good idea. I think that it would sound great with a HFS or Dragon. My yellow guitar (original chopper) has a Dragon in the bridge and it is pretty hot compared to the Wagner bridge. Even sounds great with the cheapy Schaller neck pickup! The Schaller is basically a PAF copy.

If you'r not familiar with the sound of a HFS, it's in the bridge of my 24 that you have.

Yep, you figured it out. Same fret spaceing if the scale length is the same.

Something else to consider as far as comfort is the frets in relation to thebody I personally don't like having to "reach" toward the higher frets (12 and above). With a 24 fret guitar, the higher frets are further away from the body, hence putting less of an angle on your wrist. Jason and myself once talked about this and he measured. I believe the 12th fret on a 24 fret 25 scale, sits the same as the 12th fret of a 22 fret 25.5 scale.
